Lame-O Thursday: Alabama Football
If you’ve ever been to a game at Bryant-Denny you know that the blaring slur of Bear Bryant sounds exactly like this. It has nothing to do with bad video quality on YouTube. It sounds JUST like this. You’d think with “12″ National Championships they could afford a better sound system. Oh, and about that 12 championships thing…read this.

As one of the four people who read this blog regularly, I’m constantly astounded at your insistence on feeding into the (I thought) antiquated stereotype about Auburn fans obsessed with Alabama. I won’t waste anyone’s time arguing the championship thing, because anyone with a brain and a working knowledge of college football already understands the inanity of the national championship process in college football, and understands that it’s been that way ever since the concept of “national champion” has existed (which has been around 50 years or so).
Just to set the record straight, however, the reason the BDS video sounds like that isn’t because of the stadium’s audio quality — it sounds that way because Bryant sounded that way. Even people who knew him well and spent every day with him sometimes had no idea what he was saying (a lifetime of unfiltered cigarettes and alcohol will do that to you — just listen to Pat Dye now). And this isn’t even considering the fact that it’s old audio and there’s only so much you can do.
But I am glad you brought this up, because it gives me a chance to rant about jumbotrons and how much I hate them. Artificial noise makes me want to throw up. Ridiculous animal noises disgust me. And those advertisements … I can’t talk about them without saying things that would upset my parents. When you cram 90,000 people into one place to watch a freaking football game, you shouldn’t feel the need to also show it to them on TV. If the jumbotrons came down tomorrow, I’d be fine with it.

I’m just curious……..don’t you have anything better to do with your time than pick a part a jumbotron video? I stand with Will in that I hate the jumbotrons at all stadiums, BUT I will say that at least Alabama puts a video up of their own team and national titles. (Even if the audio of Coach Bryant does sound bad.)
When I went to Auburn two years ago (when Stanley McGlover caused Brodie to freak out everytime he gets the ball in the pocket), the video that was played before the game was of every Auburn victory over Alabama. It truly showed Auburn’s lack of class and the fact that they are and will always be Alabama’s little brother.

I’m sorry, I don’t see the problem in showing past wins, it’s kinda like saying…hey guys, remember that one, it’s gonna happen again. That video is mainly there to pump up the home crowd, they don’t care what crimson-wearers see anyway. It’s supposed to be a miserable experience for you. And did you watch your video, it’s got more history(although most is fake and a lie) than anything else.
I will leave you with the line from that great hymn “Jesus Paid It All”:
